WARRIORS have announced high performance director Nick Johnston will be leaving the club next Saturday.
A club statement released by the Sixways outfit today (Thursday) said Johnston has decided not to renew the optional last two years of his contract with Warriors and as such will be leaving the club on Saturday, April 1.
Johnston joined Worcester as high performance director in December 2013, having formerly worked at Sale Sharks and Northampton Saints – where he spent five seasons with the Franklin’s Gardens side.
Following the surprise departure of former director of rugby Dean Ryan last summer, Warriors appointed Johnston and head coach Carl Hogg in a dual management role.
But in December, following Worcester’s slide towards the relegation zone, which saw them win just one of nine Aviva Premiership games and left them six points above basement side Bristol, the club shook-up the management structure, with Hogg being given sole responsibility.
Johnston, however, continued his role as high performance director, overseeing the club’s academy, medical, sports science and player welfare departments.
The club statement said: “Nick Johnston has decided not to renew the optional last two years of his contract with Worcester Warriors and as such will be leaving us with effect from Saturday, April 1.
“We would like to thank Nick for his hard work at the club and wish him well for the future.”
