Humphreys delighted to sign new contract

Worcester Editorial 23rd Nov, 2016   0

YOUNG winger Perry Humphreys has committed his future to Warriors after extending his contract with the club.

“I’m thrilled to have signed with a club that’s clearly heading in the right direction,” said 22-year-old Humphreys.

“I’ve really enjoyed the last couple of seasons alongside a great bunch of players and I’m continuing to learn off some fantastic role models, in players such as Chris Pennell and Bryce Heem.

“The best way to improve as a player is through game-time and there’s no better place for opportunities for young players than here at Warriors.”

After joining the Sixways academy in 2014, Humphreys, pictured, was handed his first-team debut against Rotherham Titans in the Greene King IPA Championship.

He bagged his first try for the club away at Moseley, before scoring an impressive solo effort against Leinster A in the 2014/15 British and Irish Cup semi-final, which Warriors went on to win.

The pacey winger continued his growth in the 2015/16 campaign, where he featured in the European Challenge Cup and was a key member of the Worcester Cavaliers squad, being rewarded with a first-team contract in February.

Humphreys made his Aviva Premiership debut at Twickenham against Saracen, before scoring a sensational try on his home Premiership bow against Gloucester the week after.

He crossed the whitewash in three consecutive games, and scooped the club’s ‘Player of the Month’ award for September.

Head coach Carl Hogg said: “Perry is yet another example of a young player who has grasped his opportunity in the early stages of this season.

“He provides great competition across the back three and has grown immensely during his first two seasons at the club.

“At just 22, Perry still has plenty of potential and we’re excited about working with him to help him reach the top of his game.”
