SOUTH AFRICAN scrum-half Francois Hougaard has been recalled by the Springboks for their opening two matches of the 2016 Rugby Championship against Argentina.
The 28-year-old, who had been a travelling reserve for the South African Sevens squad at the Rio 2016 Olympics Games, is due to join up with the Springboks 31-strong XVs squad on Monday.
South Africa’s head coach Allister Coetzee said Hougaard, who joined the Sixways outfit in February, had previously been unavailable due to his Sevens duties and will bring vast experience to the side.
The first Test will take place on Saturday, August 20 at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, South Africa, before the return fixture takes place at the Estadio Padre Ernesto Martearena in Salta, Argentina on Saturday, August 27.
