Honours even in Pirates' opener

IN THEIR opening match in Division One of the Worcester Table Tennis League, Poolbrook Pirates were involved in a closely fought drawn encounter with Manor Park Dynamos.

The Pirates were 2-5 down but won the remaining three singles. In the final singles the Pirates number 1, Steve Glazzard, beat his opposite number Richard Smith 14-12, 11-5, 11-9 to ensure the points would be shared. Graham Collier and Ian Bell each won two singles for the Pirates and Matt Hodges did likewise for the Dynamos.

Rainbow made an impressive start to the season with two wins including an 8-2 victory against promoted Cripplegate Guild and 9-1 against Himbleton “A”.

Alan Salisbury and Pete Griffiths were both unbeaten against the Guild with newcomer to the team Mark Clinton adding two more wins.




For the Guild Steve Baker beat Clinton and with Mike Sledge added the doubles.

Himbleton’s number 1 John Rowe beat Pete Griffiths in the opening singles but that proved to be the extent of their success.  Alan Salisbury and Trevor Simmons were both unbeaten for Rainbow and together were also successful in the doubles.


IN DIVISION TWO, FHWMC B and YMCA Kites head the league table having won both their matches.

Upton Lions and St Martins both lost their opening two games.

Chris Field, Richard Bennett, Bob Barlow and Ken Hipwell lead the Individuals table.
