Hogg calls for more focus from Warriors

WARRIORS head coach Carl Hogg has admitted his side have ‘a long way to go’ to reach the performance levels they have set themselves this season.

A 31-12 victory over local rivals Moseley last Saturday extended Warriors’ winning streak to 11 games and took them a step closer to making the quarter finals of the British & Irish Cup.

But having seen his players falter in the second half for the third successive week, Hogg insisted there was still plenty of room for improvement as they bid to keep their successful run going.

“I think we can still raise our standards. That is quite clear and we know we have got a long way to go,” he said. “There are periods in matches where we are very clinical, especially in the first half.

“But are we satisfied with our game? No, as we know we can play better than that and that is the challenge for us going forward.

“When you have got the five points in the bag, your mind can drift away to the next challenge and that’s what happened against Moseley, so we need to address that.

“If we can produce that first half over an 80 minute period then we will put teams to the sword.”

Hogg said he was hoping to see a more complete performance from his players on Friday when they go up against Munster A as another win would secure their place in the last eight.

“It is a fantastic fixture for ourselves,” he said. “It will be a great atmosphere for a game which is pivotal in the pool.

“We will be picking a strong enough side to get the job done in Munster, but it will be a really tough challenge.

“Some of the Munster boys have been playing in the PRO12 and have had to step up during the Autumn Internationals, so they will have been exposed to some high level rugby.

“But we know the challenge ahead of us and we will be ready for it.”

However, Hogg is likely to be without Joe Rees (back spasm), Perry Humphreys (calf injury) and Rob O’Donnell (concussion) who all sustained injuries against Moseley.
