High-flying City prepare for Stockport challenge

Worcester Editorial 16th Sep, 2014 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

WORCESTER City will look to secure their first away win of the season when they make the trip to Conference North big-guns Stockport County tonight (Tuesday).

Carl Heeley’s men secured back-to-back victories for the first time this season with their impressive 2-0 success over table-toppers Chorley on Saturday (September 13), but have drawn two and lost two on their travels so far.

The Blue and Whites find themselves in ninth place in the Vanarama Conference North after just one defeat in their last six outings, which includes a run of three wins in four.

Captain Ellis Deeney and impact sub Tristian Dunkley opened their Worcester goal-scoring accounts for the season on Saturday and the latter will be hoping his impressive cameo from the bench is enough to warrant a starting berth at Edgeley Park.

The Hatters have hit similar form to that of Heeley’s side and find themselves a place above their rivals, but only on goals scored.

They will be looking to secure their fourth home success on the spin following convincing victories over Bradford Park Avenue, Lowestoft Town and Boston united.

City will be hoping for better fortunes in Greater Manchester tonight after they were handed a 4-0 drubbing last season.

Ahead of the game, manager Heeley said: “We’ll have a look at the match report that we’ve got from Stockport then we’ll go there and pick a side we think can win the game.

“You also have to take into account we’ve played 60 minutes the other evening (Lowestoft Town) with ten men, and they’ve put in another good shift against Chorley and there’s possibly lads that could freshen things up.

“That said there’s no need to make wholesale changes because they’ve got that momentum and they’re going well and part of you says stick with it and don’t fix something that’s not broke.

“It’s not about the crowd, it’s not about the club and their history, it’s about Worcester City going there and trying to win another three points and that’s what we’re looking to do.”
