Heeley warns of tougher season

THE SKRILL Conference North is set to be far more competitive next season with the addition of big spending clubs, Worcester City manager Carl Heeley has warned.

After a stirring second-half of the campaign, the Blue and Whites boss saw his side finish in 15th, something he wants to improve on during 2014/15.

But Heeley admitted it would be a difficult task with the calibre of teams his side was likely to face.

“The league will be a lot tougher next year,” he said.

“When you lose clubs like Vauxhall and Histon, who are two of the smaller spenders, and replace them with big spenders like Tamworth and Hyde, it’s going to be a lot tougher.

“We finished last campaign really strongly and we want to try and take that into the start of next season.

“I’m not one for setting silly targets but I want to improve and I want to be competitive.

“Where it does matter is putting the ball in the net and scoring goals, that’s where you spend your money, that’s what makes the difference and that’s what did stick out for me last season.”

City have continued their preparations ahead of next season by signing 33-year-old goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan from landlords Kidderminster Harriers.

“Nathan is a vastly experienced keeper and having stability in the number one jersey is a must if we are to improve on last season,” Heeley added.

“We did not want to get into the same position as last season where we had what seemed to be a new keeper every other week.

“I believe he is the best local keeper by far and is another great signing for the club.”
