Heeley confident despite recent run of results

CARL Heeley believes his Worcester City side can ‘achieve things’ in the Vanarama Conference North, despite the competition being the toughest he has known.

The Blue and Whites have failed to win a game yet this season, with four draws and a defeat seeing them sit in 18th, but City’s boss said he had seen plenty to encourage him for the campaign ahead.

“The early signs are positive,” he said. “Every game has been very, very fine, nothing in it. It’s a tough run of fixtures but we’re confident we can get results anywhere.

“Results will come for us, we’re not going to be a struggling side from what I’ve seen.

“I don’t see a weak link in the Conference North, it’s going to be very, very tough. I think it’s the strongest the division has ever been but I think we can achieve things in the league if we have that little stroke of fortune that’s probably deserted us in the first four games.

“Possibly on the games so far we are feeling a little bit unjust with the points return but it is what it is and we’ve got to try and win games and correct that as quickly as we can.”

Mike Symons bagged his first goal for the club since his return earlier in the summer in the 1-1 draw against Tamworth on Saturday (August 23) and Heeley said he was happy with the squad he has put together for this season.

“I think we’ve got good footballers, some experience and some youth,” he added. “We’ve got a physical presence if we need it, I think all the attributes are there.

“Get that first win and the whole season looks totally different and the belief that a win does for you.”
