Hammond: It's time to push on now

Worcester Editorial 11th Jan, 2017   0

EXPLOSIVE winger Dean Hammond has relished the amount of game time he has received under head coach Carl Hogg and is itching to continue his impressive try scoring form this year.

The South African, who is Warriors’ second highest try scorer this season with five scores across the Aviva Premiership and European Challenge Cup, has already featured in ten Premiership games for the club, eclipsing the sole appearance he made in the 2015/16 campaign as a replacement.

The former South Africa Sevens player also believes the club have ‘plenty of time’ to turn things round in the Premiership.

“We’ve had a lot of ups and downs this season. We’ve taken positives from a few performances, but also had some unlucky results,” said the 24-year-old.

“We obviously expect to be sitting higher in the table, but the two home draws against Sale and Gloucester have made a big difference.

“There’s still plenty of time for us to turn things round, but we need to push on now.

“I’m happy with my performances this campaign, but it’s backed up by other players doing the hard work. I didn’t set any try scoring targets before the season started, it was more of a team goal of getting results.

“But I’ve developed my game under Hogg and I have a lot more confidence now, as I’ve enjoyed a lot more game time compared to previous seasons.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given and hopefully I can keep taking them with both hands.”
