SAM Whitton’s goal sent Worcester Raiders into the next round of the Worcestershire Senior Cup following a 1-0 win against Malvern Town.
Whitton scored the game’s only goal on 75 minutes to send Raiders into the quarter-finals at Sixways Stadium.
Raiders will play Kidderminster Harriers in the quarter-finals of the competition on Tuesday, November 12 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Sixways.
Malvern had the game’s first chance as Lewis Platt saw his free-kick from a central area easily saved by Charlie Emery in the Raiders goal.
At the other end, Raiders had an effort blocked inside the penalty area after Simeon Okoro worked space for a shot.
Raiders stopper Emery then superbly tipped a deflected effort over the crossbar moments after the keeper denied Lewis Spurrier.
And Emery came to the home side’s rescue again soon after to deny Spurrier once more.
Raiders threatened at the other end only for Jade Ferron to fire a shot into the side netting.
Whitton then grazed the top of the net with an effort from distance before a game on pinball broke out in the Malvern box with the ball eventually ending up in the arms of goalkeeper Alex Kovacevic.
Chances were at a premium after the break until Whitton broke the deadlock on 75 minutes when he tapped home from close range after Liam Banks beat the offside trap.
And Raiders held on to stretch their unbeaten run to seven matches in all competitions.
Worcester are next in action against Brimscombe and Thrupp on Saturday, October 12 with kick-off at 3pm at The Meadow.
