WORCESTER City conceded in injury time as Sporting Khalsa staged a late comeback to claim a dramatic 3-2 victory against Chris Cornes’ side.
First-half goals from Taylor Townsend and Kyle Belmonte put City into a two-goal lead before Todd Ferrier reduced the deficit on the stroke of half time at Noose Lane.
Khalsa drew level on 80 minutes when Jayden Campbell found the net before Simeon Cobourne struck three minutes into injury time to complete a remarkable turnaround.
The result means Worcester sit fifth in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, two points inside the play-off places.
City deservedly took the lead on 32 minutes when Belmonte played a defence-splitting pass through to Townsend who poked the ball past the onrushing Khalsa goalkeeper.
And Belmonte doubled Worcester’s lead two minutes before the break with a goal-of-the-season contender as the midfielder took aim from the centre circle and unleashed a sensational effort which sailed over the head of the Khalsa goalkeeper and bounced into the net.
However, Sporting halved the deficit two minutes later when Ferrier finished past Haydn Whitcombe after City failed to track his run from deep.
And after City spurned chances to put the game to bed, Khalsa equalised 10 minutes from time as Campbell’s deflected low effort beat Whitcombe in the Worcester goal.
Both teams searched for a winner in a frantic finale before Cobourne produced a composed finish following a misplaced pass to settle the game in injury time.
Worcester are next in action against Rugby Town on Saturday, October 26 with kick-off at 3pm at Butlin Road.
