WORCESTER City produced a sensational second-half performance to thrash struggling Rugby Town 6-1 after scoring five goals in the space of nine minutes after the break.
The visitors trailed to Liam Francis’ header at the interval only for Kyle Belmonte’s fine equaliser on 49 minutes to spark a remarkable blitz of goals at Butlin Road.
Both Felix Miles and Zac Guinan struck twice after Belmonte’s leveller as Worcester struck five times in just nine minutes to leave the home side stunned.
And a late Dylan Hart goal completed the scoring as City romped to their biggest victory of the season.
The result means Worcester sit fifth in the Northern Premier League Midlands table.
Rugby made a bright start as Mikey Taylor rounded the goalkeeper only for Hayden Reeves to deny the striker with a goal-saving block.
Valley broke the deadlock on 44 minutes when Francis headed in Ayo Lekuti’s cross before Taylor went close just after the restart.
However, Worcester drew level four minutes after the break when Belmonte curled a shot into the net from 25-yards out.
And City completed the turnaround less than a minute later as Miles finished Taylor Townsend’s cross from six-yards out.
Valley almost equalised soon after as Harrison Nee saw his goalbound effort blocked on the line.
However, the visitors struck again on 53 minutes when Guinan met Jordan Lymn’s cross at the near post and fired a first time finish past Paul Hathaway.
And Hathaway’s poor clearance allowed Guinan to net his second of the game three minutes later from the edge of the penalty area.
Worcester continued to punish Valley at every opportunity and scored again on 58 minutes when Francis played a short backpass towards Hathaway and Miles picked up the loose ball, rounded the goalkeeper and finished into an empty net.
City substitute Hart completed the scoring on 74 minutes when he headed in Townsend’s corner with his first touch while Belmonte hit the woodwork late on.
Worcester are next in action against Coleshill Town on Saturday, November 2 with kick-off at 3pm at Claines Lane.
