WORCESTER City stretched their unbeaten run in the league to four matches following a 1-1 draw against Leiston.

City fell behind to Joao Rangel’s early goal only for Liam Lockett to draw the home side level after the break at Sixways Stadium.

The result means Worcester sit 16th in the Southern League Premier Central table, seven points clear of the relegation zone.

City made the worst possible start when Rangel curled a shot into the left side of the goal from 25-yards out after just four minutes from Fraser Alexander’s short free-kick.

Leiston almost presented Worcester with a golden chance to draw level when a loose backpass fell into the path of Zac Guinan with the striker unable to bring the ball under control.

And the home side went close soon after as Kyle Belmonte pounced on a loose ball before curling a shot wide of the post.

Worcester equalised on 55 minutes when Lockett finished at the back post from close range after Belmonte’s reverse pass released Harry Burns in the box who drilled a ball across the face of goal.

City thought they had taken the lead just past the hour mark only for Guinan to see his effort ruled out for an offside offence earlier in the move.

At the other end, Charlie Wise made a crucial block to prevent Willie Clemons from finding the net after the Leiston man took the ball past City goalkeeper Harley Price.

The home side had one final chance to complete the turnaround as substitute Dan Sweeney fired straight at Billy Johnson in the Leiston goal late on.

Worcester are next in action against Stamford on Tuesday, November 11 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Zeeco Stadium.
