WORCESTER City tasted defeat in the league for the first time in over a year as the club’s record unbeaten run came to an end following a 2-0 defeat against Corby Town.
City conceded either side of half time at Steel Park as Worcester lost in the league for the first time since August 2023.
The result means City sit second in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, seven points behind leaders Corby with two games in-hand.
Chris Cornes’ side made the worst possible start as Fletcher Toll opened the scoring for Corby on eight minutes when he lobbed City’s debutant goalkeeper George Barrett.
And Toll had a chance to double Corby’s lead only for his effort to bounce harmlessly into the arms of Barrett.
Worcester’s only chance of note in the first half came deep into injury time as Elliott Harltey saw his shot blocked after good work from Kyle Belmonte.
However, Corby struck again four minutes after half time as Jordan O’Brien’s shot slipped through the hands of Barrett and into the net.
City’s day went from bad to worse on 82 minutes as Hayden Reeves saw red after picking up a second yellow card for dissent.
Worcester are next in action against Hinckley LRFC in the FA Trophy on Saturday, September 7 with kick-off at 3pm at Claines Lane.
