WORCESTER City returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 3-1 victory against Racing Club Warwick.

City took command of the game courtesy of goals from Elliott Hartley and Kyle Belmonte either side of half time before Callum Carsely put through his own net at the death at Claines Lane.

The result means Worcester sit second in the Northern Premier League Midlands table after winning both of their opening two matches.

Worcester broke the deadlock on 24 minutes when Hartley smashed home Jordan Lymn’s driven ball across goal.

The visitors almost drew level at the end of the first half as Warwick hit the crossbar from a corner.

However, Worcester doubled their lead on 51 minutes when Hartley stole the ball off Warwick goalkeeper Sam Lomax and squared for Belmonte to apply the finish.

The Racers halved the deficit eight minutes later as Ben Edmunds headed in at the back post to keep the visitors in the contest.

And Racing almost drew level with 10 minutes left to play as Carsley pulled a shot inches past the post.

City eventually sealed the points in injury time, moments after Belmonte hit the post, as Carsley turned the ball into his own net after Lomax saved Liam Lockett’s initial effort.

Worcester are next in action away at Loughborough Students on Saturday, August 24 with kick-off at 3pm at Loughborough University Stadium.
