WORCESTER City returned to winning ways with a routine 3-0 victory against AFC Rushden and Diamonds.

Goals from Prince Henry, Felix Miles and Liam Lockett earned City a fourth successive home win at Claines Lane.

The result means Worcester sit third in the Northern Premier League Midlands table.

City took the lead after just six minutes when the ball broke to Henry in the box and the striker saw his effort deflect past Rushden goalkeeper Ben Heath from eight-yards out.

The home side had a chance to double their advantage only for Elliott Hartley to drag a shot wide from inside the box.

At the other end, City goalkeeper Haydn Whitcombe failed to claim a corner from the left which led to panic inside the box before Worcester eventually turned the ball behind.

Rushden came forward again soon after as Jordan Lymn produced a fine block to deny Cairo Taylor from close range.

City won a penalty just before half time as Heath fouled Miles in the box as the pair competed for a loose ball following Hartley’s cross from the right.

Miles picked himself up to double Worcester’s lead from the spot on 44 minutes as he placed his penalty into the bottom left corner despite Heath diving the right way.

City almost extended their lead after the break following a blistering counter attack as a Rushden defender sliced the ball off Kyle Belmonte and onto the roof of the net when attempting to cut out Miles’ pull back.

Miles continued to cause Rushden problems as he collected a loose ball just outside the penalty area before jinking his way into the box and shooting wide.

Rushden spurned a glorious chance to halve the deficit when a City defender inadvertently headed the ball into the path of Ethan Johnston who tried to poke the ball past Whitcombe only for the Worcester stopper to make a crucial block.

And Worcester made sure of the points on 81 minutes when Lockett tapped home from close range after Heath could only parry Hartley’s powerful curling effort into the path of the midfielder.

City felt they should have had a second penalty late on when substitute Zac Guinan had his shirt pulled in the box with the referee not interested in the home side’s appeals.

Worcester are next in action against league leaders Quorn on Saturday, December 7 with kick-off at 3pm at Farley Way.
