FOOTBALL - Worcester City put six past Pershore Town to reach Worcestershire Senior Cup semi-finals

WORCESTER City began their defence of the Worcestershire Senior Cup with a 6-0 victory against Pershore Town to reach the semi-finals of the competition.

Both Liam Lockett and Izak Reid scored braces while Felix Miles and Josh Bailey also found the net in a comprehensive victory for Chris Cornes’s side at Sixways Stadium.

City entered the competition at the quarter-final stage and faced Pershore in a repeat of the 2021/22 final when the Plums stunned Worcester to lift the trophy.

Worcester play two levels above Pershore who ply their trade in the Hellenic League Premier Division.

And City made the perfect start when Lockett’s cross from the right rebounded into the path of Miles who slotted home from eight-yards out with just 11 minutes on the clock.

The home side struck again five minutes later as Lockett slipped the ball past the Pershore goalkeeper after racing in-behind the Plums defence.

Worcester all but sealed their place in the last four on 28 minutes when Reid smashed home Lockett’s low ball across the face of goal from close range.

And City extended their lead on 35 minutes as Bailey applied the final touch to a long throw which was flicked on at the near post.

The home side remained in control after the break as Lockett grabbed his second of the game on 71 minutes when he found the bottom corner with a first time effort after good work from Zac Guinan down the right.

And City completed the scoring eight minutes later when Reid headed in from close range to score his second goal after Charlie Wise rose highest to nod Bailey’s cross into the scorer’s path.

Worcester are next in action against St Ives Town on Saturday, December 6 with kick-off at 3pm at Westwood Road.
