CHRIS Cornes insists it is too early to talk about title deciders ahead of Worcester City’s top-of-the-table clash against Corby Town this weekend.

Worcester maintained their perfect start to the season with a 2-0 win against Lye Town following a 3-1 victory at Loughborough Students.

And the results mean City sit second in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, four points behind leaders Corby with two games in-hand ahead of a crunch clash between the two sides this weekend.

Cornes said: “Our game management was brilliant and we dominated possession, it was a very good performance, it was pleasing to see.

“It was very frantic in the first 20 minutes and quite even, we got a foothold after that and didn’t look back.

“They [Corby] are a good side, they’ve been around for a while but it’s just another game in the season.

“It’s very early to be talking about title deciders, we’re nowhere near that, we’ve had a good start and we’ve got a good healthy squad.

“We’re full of confidence and hopefully we can go to Corby, carry this run on and keep going.”

Against Lye, Worcester broke the deadlock five minutes before the break as Elliott Keightley smashed home the rebound after the goalkeeper could only parry Kyle Belmonte’s initial header.

And City sealed the points on 66 minutes when Izak Reid poked the ball past the keeper from Jordan Lymn’s through ball to secure a comfortable win at Claines Lane.

Reid was also on target in Worcester’s win at Loughborough as City secured their first away victory of the season at the Loughborough University Stadium.

Worcester took the lead on 27 minutes when Belmonte finished Liam Lockett’s pass from eight-yards out.

City eventually doubled their lead on 64 minutes as Lockett drove into the box from the left and his cross hit Elliott Hartley who bundled the ball home from close range.

Loughborough halved the deficit four minutes later when Quinton Zolani Dlodlo headed in Alexander Spiteri’s cross from the left.

However, the visitors made sure of the points in injury time as Loughborough goalkeeper Charlie Callaghan pushed substitute Reid’s effort from 25-yards out into the top right corner.

Worcester are next in action away at Corby on Saturday, August 31 with kick-off at 3pm at Steel Park.
