FOOTBALL- Worcester City hit five to win Floodlit Cup

Worcester Editorial 20th Mar, 2024   0

WORCESTER City have thrashed Roman Glass St George 5-1 to lift the Wiseman Lighting Floodlit Cup.

City headed into tonight’s crucial second leg with a 2-1 aggregate advantage.

But they wasted no time in putting the tie to bed with Jordan Lymn giving the visitors the lead on the night after 12 minutes.

The travelling City fans only had to wait another six minutes to see a second goal.

Calvin Dinsley rose to head home Lockett’s corner to give Chris Cornes’ side what looked like an unassailable lead.

But the hosts looked like they may have got themselves back into the tie just two minutes later, with Charlie Saunders heading the ball back across the goal from the far post and into the opposite corner.

Jordan Lymn grabbed his second of the game from the edge of the area seven minutes after half time to put the tie to bed for City.

Liam Lockett added a fourth just a minute before he was substituted, and Izak Reid added gloss to the cup winners night with a fifth goal five minutes from the end.

The Wiseman Lighting cup success keeps City’s hopes of a quadruple of trophies alive.

Tonight’s cup-clinching victory was Worcester’s 18th consecutive victory in all competitions.
