WORCESTER City secured a 14th straight victory to equal the club’s all-time record winning run with a 1-0 success at Westfields in the Marsh Cup.

City booked their place in the semi-finals of the competition thanks to Kyonn Evans’s early goal as Worcester equalled a 47-year club record set between March and April 1977.

Worcester’s record-equalling winning run began with a 3-0 victory against Highworth Town on New Year’s Day and comprises seven league games, two FA Vase ties and five cup matches.

Against Westfields, City broke the deadlock after just two minutes as Evans slotted home his first goal of the season from Logan Stoddart’s cross.

The goal proved enough to earn Worcester a place in the last four after securing a 4-1 league win against the same opponents last weekend.

However, City had to come from behind to claim all three points against Westfields in their quest to win the Hellenic League Premier title.

Westfields took the lead on four minutes after Oliver Barnes beat the offside trap and played the ball across the box to Daniel Stoneman who finished from eight-yards out.

Worcester equalised on 39 minutes when Kyle Belmonte scored from the penalty spot after Dylan Hart drew a foul in the box.

And the visitors completed the turnaround at the start of the second half as Elliott Hartley’s lofted header bounced into the net from Adam Mace’s excellent ball in behind the Westfields defence.

City stretched their lead on 56 minutes when Lorcan Sheehan rose highest to head Liam Lockett’s corner from the left into the bottom right corner at the near post.

And Lockett completed the scoring five minutes from time with a simple finish from inside the penalty area as City cruised to another league win.

The result means the Blue and Whites remain three points clear of closest challengers Corsham Town at the top of the Hellenic League Premier Division table with three games in-hand.

Worcester are next in action away at Pershore Town on Friday, March 1 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Community Stadium.
