WORCESTER City cruised to a 3-0 win against Halesowen Town as Chris Cornes’s side secured their first league victory of the season.

A brace from Felix Miles and a late goal from Dan Sweeney earned City the points at The Grove.

That came after Worcester rescued a late point in a 2-2 draw against Bury Town at Sixways Stadium.

An injury-time goal from Zac Guinan saw City claim a share of the spoils after debutant Musa Ceesay opened the scoring.

And both teams had a player sent off before half time in a feisty affair.

The results mean Worcester sit 14th in the Southern League Premier Central table.

City took the lead against Halesowen after just six minutes as Liam Lockett’s cross from the left looped into the air and Miles volleyed home from eight-yards out.

And the visitors doubled their advantage on 21 minutes when Lockett jinked his way into the box and squared the ball for Miles to finish from close range.

Worcester wrapped up the points three minutes from time as Sweeney pounced on a loose touch at the back before bursting into the box and coolly finding the top-right corner.

That came after City snatched a late point against Bury in an entertaining draw at Sixways.

The home side broke the deadlock on eight minutes as Ceesay headed in Teddy Rowe’s corner from the left from five-yards out just hours after joining the club.

However, both teams were reduced to 10-men on 38 minutes following a tussle between Sweeney and Bury’s Taylor Parr near the corner flag.

And Bury equalised two minutes before half time as Cemal Ramadan finished Harley Curtis’s low ball in from the right at the back post from close range.

The visitors completed the turnaround on 55 minutes when George Quantrell flicked a long throw from the left into the bottom right corner.

However, City rescued a point three minutes into injury time as Guinan curled a stunning effort into the right corner of the goal from just over 20-yards out.

Worcester are next in action against Chasetown on Saturday, August 30 with kick-off at 3pm at Sixways Stadium.
