WORCESTER City captain Adam Mace has announced he will hang up his boots at the end of the 2024/25 season.
Mace has made more than 100 appearances for the club since joining City in the summer of 2023.
The defender helped Worcester win the Hellenic League Premier Division title along with Worcestershire Senior Cup, Wiseman Lighting Floodlit Cup and Herefordshire Invitation Cup.
He also helped the club reach the semi-finals of the FA Vase in 2023/24.
And Mace wants to finish his career on a high with Worcester involved in the Northern Premier League Midlands play-offs this campaign.
Mace said: “After two unbelievable years at this football club, sadly, the time has now come where I look to move out and away from football.
“After 15 years and however many yellow cards, I feel the time has arrived for me to move on to pastures new.
“Firstly, I cannot start without mentioning Chris Cornes and thank him openly for everything he has done for me and the lads over my two years at the club.
“I have never played for such a respected manager. An unbelievable manager, an even better person and I will forever be in debt for the opportunities and experiences I’ve had under him.
“This club is in exceptional hands, led by people who have a genuine affection for it, and that is incredibly special.
“There is only one thing better than achieving what we have in the last two years, and that is to achieve it with a group of players like we have.
“I have loved my time here. I, like the gaffer, am big on building relationships between the players and the supporters, and I truly believe alongside our successes, we have done that.
“It has been a rollercoaster, but we have created memories that’ll live with us all forever.
“I thank every single person involved at this football club for the memories and successes we’ve had over the last two years. I have had the time of my life, and will be forever proud.”
Worcester manager, Chris Cornes added: “Two Pepsi Max and a 30-minute chat telling him that we would win the league, he decided to sign for me. From that visit, I had already decided he would be captain.
“He’s boring, busy, annoying, has a wand of a left foot, is the best skipper, a great lad and someone you want in the trenches with you.
“It’s been a monumental two seasons with Macey, and he’s been a big factor in our success. He does so much behind the scenes that goes unnoticed, but not by me.
“He’s played a part in my journey as a manager, and I will never forget that.
“He’s going to be a huge miss around the place but I hope to see him lift one more trophy above his head.
“That would be a fitting end to his career, and I know he will be doing everything he can to achieve that, and keep the lads together to give it our best shot.
“I’m hoping it’s not the end for Macey regarding working with me, and I hope we will come together again in the future in some capacity.
“Thanks, Mace, I owe you a debt of gratitude for believing in me and being ready to lead the team week in week out.”
Mace will make his final home league appearance for Worcester at Claines Lane this weekend with City hosting Loughborough Students in their final game of the regular season.
City then enter the play-offs where they will travel to either Corby Town or Anstey Nomads depending on results on the final day of the season.
