WORCESTER City set a new club-record win streak on their way to an impressive 4-0 victory against Emley AFC in the FA Vase quarter-finals.
The Blue and Whites secured a 15th successive win in all competitions as a Liam Lockett brace, an own goal and a late Izak Reid strike sealed City’s place in the last four at a sold-out Claines Lane.
Worcester will discover their semi-final opponents later today with the draw to take place at around 3.15pm live on talkSPORT2.
The home side took the lead on 22 minutes when Lockett whipped a shot into the top left corner of the goal after Kyle Belmonte’s cross from the right travelled all the way to the midfielder at the back post.
And Northern Counties East Premier Division leaders Emley then had James Walshaw sent to the sin bin for dissent although City were unable to capitalise on the man advantage.
Worcester doubled their lead on 42 minutes when a mix-up at the back saw Emley defender Ross Hardaker head the ball into his own net with goalkeeper Aleksander Petrovic off his line.
And City all but sealed their place in the semi-finals on 75 minutes as Lockett finished at the back post after Emley failed to clear Dylan Hart’s ball across the face of goal.
Chris Cornes’ side added a fourth goal in the second minute of injury time when Reid coolly lifted the ball past Petrovic and into the bottom right corner from Belmonte’s through ball.
The win means City have won all 15 of their matches since New Year’s Day breaking a club record previously set in April 1977.
Worcester are next in action against Roman Glass St George on Tuesday, March 12 in the first leg of the Wiseman Lighting Floodlit Cup final with kick-off at 7.45pm at Malvern Town’s HDanywhere Stadium.
