CHARLIE Wise scored either side of half time as Worcester City secured an impressive 4-1 win against Anstey Nomads on the opening day of the season.

Wise struck either side of goals from Liam Lockett and Will Owens before completing the scoring in the second half after Leo Brown put Anstey ahead at Claines Lane.

The result means Worcester sit second in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, behind leaders Quorn on goal difference.

Anstey stunned the home side on eight minutes when Brown headed past Haydn Whitcombe in the Worcester goal from Zayn Hakeem’s cross from the right.

However, City eventually drew level on 29 minutes as Lockett fired a low effort into the bottom left corner from just inside the penalty area.

And Worcester completed the turnaround four minutes later when Wise rose highest to head in Adam Mace’s corner from the right.

The home side scored their third goal in the space of 11 minutes as Owen’s deflected shot from distance found the top right corner with the goalkeeper rooted to the spot.

City completed the scoring on 73 minutes as Wise grabbed his second of the game with another header from Mace’s excellent free-kick from the left.

Worcester are next in action against Walsall Wood in an FA Cup replay on Tuesday, August 13 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Claines Lane.
