FOOTBALL: Malvern's goal-den boys bid to extend scoring spree

GOAL-HUNGRY Malvern Town tackle Wantage Town this weekend fresh from netting an incredible 17 goals in two games in the past week.

A barnstorming 9-1 success over Tuffley Rovers in the Hellenic League Floodlit Cup last Tuesday (November 22) was backed up in some style on Saturday (November 26) with an 8-0 demolition of Bradford Town.

Lewis Spurrier backed up his brace on Tuesday with another on Saturday as Town provided rich entertainment to the HDAnywhere Community Stadium faithful once again.

Seven different goal scorers hit the back of the net in the two clashes, with Ben Hayes, Joe Bullock, Joe Bates and Sam Judge netting in both games.

Midfield man Bullock started November with his first goal of the season to beat leaders, Cribbs, and said the last two games had been ‘very pleasing’.

“I want to be able to add more goals to my game; hopefully there are plenty more to come from me now,” he said.

Town remain a point behind Hellenic Premier leaders Cribbs and Bullock praised the Hillsiders faithful for their devoted support.

“It’s important we don’t look too far ahead, and we take things game by game. We’ve got good momentum and hopefully we can keep grinding the results out.” he said.

“The mood in the dressing room is great; we’re one big team and we’ve all got high expectations of each other. Everyone has a role to play in pushing each other on.

“The fans have been outstanding once more. The numbers seem to be rising all of the time and the amount of supporters that we get travelling to away games is just incredible.

“It’s great to have them encouraging us and then cheering us off at the end after a victory. That is such a great feeling!

Saturday’s clash with Wantage Town kicks off at 3pm.

Cribbs retained their place at the summit with a 1-0 win over Worcester Raiders in a game which saw Raiders Joe Bellingham dismissed with 14 minutes left on the clock.

The visitors to Sixways took the lead soon after and Karl Gormley’s men will seek to return to winning ways with a trip to Thornbury Town on Tuesday (December 6).

Meanwhile City manager Chris Cornes will be hoping its third time lucky when he takes the Blue and Whites to Whitchurch Alport on Saturday.

Cornes has seen his bow as manager and the debuts of Jordan Stoddart, Connor Jakeaways and Dylan Hart delayed by the weather with Saturday’s visit of Lichfield City the latest to fall victim to a waterlogged pitch.

Should they take to the field, it will be City’s first taste of action since November 12 as they seek to close the gap to the hosts and move away from the foot of the Midland Premier Division table.
