KIRK Layton’s injury-time stunner helped Worcester City into the next round of the FA Cup after the Blue and Whites were forced to come from behind to see off divisional rivals Westfields.

Layton curled a 25-yard effort into the top left corner three minutes into time added on after Dylan Hart’s header had cancelled out Joel Edwards’ scrappy opener in a 2-1 victory at Allpay Park.

And Worcester will make the trip to United Counties League Premier Division North club Sherwood Colliery in FA Cup first round qualifying with the tie to be played on the weekend of Saturday, September 2 at Debdale Park in Nottinghamshire.

Westfields had the better of the first half chances and deservedly took the lead on 40 minutes when City goalkeeper Isaac Parry failed to punch the ball clear at a corner and Edwards nodded home from a couple of yards out.

However, Worcester equalised on 53 minutes as Hart headed Robbie Thompson-Brown’s cross from the right into the top right corner from eight yards out.

The home side spurned two glorious chances to win the game before Hart rolled the ball into the path of substitute Layton who curled a delightful first time effort into the top left corner to complete the comeback.

And the club have signed striker Jamie Insall from Redditch United in time for the striker to take part in the club’s upcoming fixtures.

Worcester and Westfields lock horns again on Tuesday night (August 22) in a Hellenic League Premier fixture at Claines Lane before Chris Cornes’ side host AFC Bridgnorth in the FA Vase on Saturday, August 26 with kick-off at 3pm.
