FOOTBALL - King's Worcester lift Challenge Cup trophy at Sixways with victory against RGS

KING’S Worcester lifted the Challenge Cup trophy with a 2-0 victory against RGS Worcester at Sixways Stadium.

The annual derby match took place in front of a large crowd of pupils, families and staff.

King’s took the lead midway through the first half as captain Barnaby Blundell smashed a shot over the RGS goalkeeper from 25-yards out.

And Toby Cunningham doubled the lead from the penalty spot after the break after brother Leo drew a foul in the box following a defensive mix-up by RGS.

King’s first team coach, Andy Holliday said: “This was a great result for the team following a lot of hard work by them to improve their performance.

“It is also a testament to the strength in depth of the school’s football program, with several Year 11 pupils in the team contributing greatly to the victory, showing the opportunities available to of our students to play their part in regaining the Challenge Cup and pointing to a very bright future for King’s football.”




Head of foundation, Ben Charles added: “The team rose to the challenge and thoroughly deserve this outstanding result.

“Their talent, determination and excellent sportsmanship were a credit to them and to King’s.


“Thank you to everyone who came along to support the teams on the night, and to RGS for being very worthy opponents.”
