WORCESTER City suffered their first home league defeat in over a year after losing 4-1 against in-form Quorn as Charlie Wise’s seventh-minute red card proved costly.

Wise saw red just seven minutes in after fouling Courney Grantham in the box with Ryan Beswick scoring the resulting spot kick at Claines Lane.

The home side defied the man disadvantage to draw level through Hayden Reeves only for Grantham, Paddy Webb and Zak Goodson to net after the break for the visitors.

The result means Worcester sit third in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, 10 points behind leaders Corby with two games in-hand.

City made the worst possible start when Quorn goalkeeper Tom Allsopp sent a long ball into the box and Wise pulled down Grantham and received a straight red card.

Beswick stepped up to score from the penalty spot as he sent Haydn Whitcombe the wrong way after just seven minutes.

Quorn almost doubled their lead soon after as Whitcombe produced a fine save diving to his right to keep out Mason Frizelle’s effort from 12-yards out.

However, Worcester drew level on 34 minutes when Reeves’ header at a corner hit Frizelle at the back post and trickled into the Quorn net.

The visitors reclaimed the lead four minutes after half time as Grantham produced a stunning overhead kick to finish a high ball from eight-yards out.

And Quorn all but sealed the points on 82 minutes when Webb flicked in a cross from the right from close range.

The away side rubbed salt in the wounds five minutes later as Goodson completed the scoring with a drilled effort into the bottom right corner from just inside the penalty area.

Worcester are next in action against Grantham Town on Saturday, September 21 with kick-off at 3pm at South Kesteven Sports Stadium.
