PAUL Downing scored a dramatic injury-time equaliser as Worcester City came from two goals down to draw 2-2 away at Stourbridge in midweek.

Downing drilled home at the death after Nathan Hayward had earlier reduced the deficit at the War Memorial Athletic Ground.

That came after Jez Abbey and Finley Holmes put the hosts into a two-goal lead only for City to produce a second-half comeback.

The result means Worcester sit 16th in the Southern League Premier Central table having drawn four of their seven league matches this season.

Stourbridge broke the deadlock on 16 minutes when Abbey scored from the penalty spot after Holmes drew a foul in the box.

And the home side doubled their lead five minutes before half time as Holmes latched onto Tyrone Barnett’s flick-on and found the net.

City halved the deficit just past the hour mark on 62 minutes when Hayward poked home a loose ball from close range following a scramble in the box.

And the visitors snatched a point three minutes into injury time as Downing drilled a shot into the bottom right corner through a crowd of bodies in the box following a corner from the right.

Worcester are next in action against Real Bedford on Saturday, September 20 with kick-off at 3pm at Sixways.
