Fixtures doubled to ten for Cavaliers in new-look Premiership Rugby A League

Worcester Editorial 19th Jul, 2017   0

WORCESTER Cavaliers will play ten matches instead of five in the new-look 2017/18 Premiership Rugby A League campaign.

As part of the restructured format, teams in the North Pool of the competition will now play each other home and away, with the top two teams progressing to the semi-finals.

Warriors’ second-string outfit will take on fellow North Pool sides Leicester Tigers, Newcastle Falcons, Northampton Wanderers, Sale Jets and Wasps.

Academy manager Chim Gale said: “The new format is ideal in terms of providing opportunities for fringe and younger players. Over the past few seasons we’ve seen a number of young stars put their hands up for first-team selection and having more games will only provide more competition for places at the weekend, whilst helping players gain valuable game-time.”

Cavaliers kick-off their Premiership Rugby A League campaign on Monday, September 4 when they welcome Leicester Tigers to Sixways (Kick-off 7.30pm).

FOUR of Warriors’ Three Pears Academy youngsters have been called up to England under-18s’ 26-man squad for this summer’s three-match tour of South Africa.

Beck Cutting, Ted Hill, Nick Rigby and James Scott will be part of the England squad that take on South Africa Schools on Friday, August 11 in Cape Town, before facing Wales under-18s on Tuesday, August 14 in Paarl and France under-18s on Saturday, August 19 in Stellenbosch.
