Fan's view: Tense finishes going the right way

THERE seems to be a different mindset at Sixways as the clock approaches 80 minutes this season.

Too many times in the past, the Warriors have choked or failed to capitalise on a lead as the referee’s final whistle approached.

However, it is more encouraging to see Worcester now go for the win in the final minutes of a game, rather than to give away a lead.

Jersey and Munster ‘A’ at home are just two examples, but Warriors’ victory away last Friday night shows there is a growing belief that a win can be found in the last ten minutes.

It was also pleasing to see the club’s marketing department getting things right recently, looking after season ticket holders, as well as those fans that purchase tickets for individual games.

The £5 vouchers to be used around the ground showed that all fans had been catered for, and not just encouraging extra spectators for the B&I cup games.

Finally, the aim of becoming a “regional” club is nearer reality. Some of the Warriors coaching staff were in action at Luctonians Rugby Club recently, taking a session with their players for other junior coaches around the county to observe.

This should inspire local players to stay within the region, as well as Worcester supporting local, grassroots rugby.

Hopefully, losing quality players to Premiership sides will, like a 79th minute loss, become something of the past.
