WE ARE desperately in need of a good kicker, but I think he may already be within our ranks, writes Phill Mason.
So far this season it seems that we would need to combine our first choice tens to make a Premiership standard fly half.
Paul Warwick has the game control but he seemingly does not have the boot to go with it, while Ignacio Mieres spends so much time dropping back to 15 I half expect Chris Pennell to ask him if he wants his shirt.
But maybe Pennell could be the solution to our kicking problems. The man is on fire this season and is consistently our best player on the pitch, so I believe we should give him ownership of the posts duty for the rest of the campaign.
There are few players, especially with kicking skills, that will play every league game this season. Also, if we did this then we could start Warwick in our Premiership games as he has great game control, can tackle and has fast hands.
I fear that if we keep rotating Warwick and Mieres and even let the likes of Andy Symons have a go then we will not resolve our kicking issues.
With two points after eight games we really could do with a reliable boot of distance to emulate the metronome kicking of Andy Goode which helped us not only return to the top flight but also stay up last season.
