Fan's view: Lack of cutting edge is alarming

Worcester Editorial 27th Feb, 2014 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

IF YOU are a fan of rugby forums then you may have seen Sale Sharks’ post entitled ‘Team to smash Worcester’ before Saturday’s game.

That is exactly the kind of thing that gets my back up and if they had played any other team it would have been Sale that were smashed at Sixways.

For 20 minutes in the first half after giving Sale an 11-point head start we were camped in their 22 but came away with no points to show for it.

We suffer from the worst ‘Red Zone Fever’ imaginable.  How can a team have the league’s top two for defenders beaten, with Chris Pennell on 39 and Josh Drauniniu on 36, and yet score less than one try per league game?

We have scored twice as many tries as Newcastle yet they are 12 points in front of us in the league.

Either we are only beating defenders in our own half of the pitch or we just do not know what to do when we see try-scoring opportunities.

All of our efforts to stay in the Premiership are being pushed aside because we cannot get our backs over the try line.

We are too far into the season to talk about ‘big games’ or ‘targeting home wins’ as we must get a 100 per cent win rate in March or face being downed by Newcastle at Kingston Park on Sunday, March 30.
