FOLLOWING success in Penzance, it was a mixed afternoon at Sixways for the final league game of the season.
It was always going to come down to this game to measure who would top the league at the end of the season and things could have been so different at the final whistle.
It was fantastic to see Sixways sold out. If we are going to compete consistently in the Premiership, Warriors need 10,000-plus every week. This will not just boost the club’s income, but it will create the atmosphere that enveloped the ground on Saturday. Many thanks to the Bristol fans for adding to this.
However, two soft yellow cards swung the game from 20-7 up, to lose 26-30 by the final whistle. I’m only glad this happened now and is not repeated in the play-offs.
In Worcester’s defence, some of the officiating was ‘questionable’, particularly the penalty decision for Bristol near the death, where they kicked for touch into Warriors’ 22, then were called back to take, and convert, a kick for goal.
It now doesn’t matter who we face in the run-in. The Premiership is now within touching distance.
