Fans have a huge role to play - O’Toole

A RALLYING call for Warriors fans to pack out Sixways and help Dean Ryan’s men move one step closer to the Aviva Premiership has been issued.

Jim O’Toole, Warriors’ Chief Executive, made the urgent plea after hearing some supporters were considering skipping the club’s clash against London Scottish on Friday night.

Worcester currently hold a five-point advantage in the tie having defeated the Exiles 27-22 at the Athletic Ground on Saturday and O’Toole believed their fans could play a crucial role in guiding them to the final.

“I was slightly alarmed when I heard that some people were being very confident that we would get to the final and that they did not need to come and support us in the semi-final,” O’Toole said.

“The play-offs are unique as an aggregate score wins the game, so anything can happen and we just need to make sure that the supporters are there for us this weekend because we absolutely need them.

“We need to avoid any arrogance at all in dealing with London Scottish because we don’t want to give them any more motivation than they already have so we are trying to keep it humble. We need as much support as we can get.”

Attendances at Sixways this season have ranged between 3,760 and 10,795, but O’Toole believed there was enough appetite for rugby in Worcester to fill the 12,024 capacity ground.

“The attendances have been sort of what we expected, given that we knew there would be a number of people who would drop away when we were relegated,” O’Toole said.

“We have had an incredibly loyal core support turning out week in, week out and it’s when you have got the big games like the Bristol match last week when you see the appetite in Worcester.

“That was a great day with a fantastic atmosphere, so those supporters have seen what Sixways has to offer. It is another big game and we need as many of those as possible to come back and support us.”
