EXPERIENCED lock Donncha O’Callaghan has urged his teammates to step up and improve ahead of Warriors’ first test of the new campaign.
The former British and Irish Lion, who represented Ireland 94 times, emphasised the importance of the players learning from their three pre-season defeats before the trip the Twickenham.
“We need to step up as we have a massive challenge on Saturday,” said the 37-year-old.
“It’s now about character in the squad and Phil Dowson spoke brilliantly after the match against Munster.
“We need to find something deep inside from a players’ point of view because in pre-season we haven’t been able to reflect the work the coaches have been putting in in training.
“We want to drive forward and show we’re getting better in the league. Last year there were an awful lot of games we were close in, but if we end up in the same position this season we’ll be disappointed as we want to improve on that.
“We need to kick on. We have a really good structure and good coaching, but in recent weeks we haven’t been able to show it on the pitch.”
