WORCESTERSHIRE CCC spinner Tom Hinley is part of the British and Irish squad to compete in the four-team European Cricket Network Weston Shield T10 tournament in Spain.

Hinley signed a rookie contract with Worcestershire in the autumn and forms part of a 14-strong party for the five-day event from which begins on February 19 and finishes on February 23.

The 21-year-old is one of four English born players in the squad along with six Irish, two Scottish and one apiece from Wales and Jersey.

He was also part of the British and Irish squad which lifted the inaugural title after their six wins in nine matches against Europe in 2024 in Santarem, Portugal.

The competition has been expanded to four teams with former Worcestershire and Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal captaining the Asian XI.

Ajmal took 63 wickets in just nine games to help Worcestershire gain promotion to Division One of the County Championship in 2014.

New Zealand batting legend Ross Taylor is also leading the fourth side taking part – a World XI.

Hinley and his teammates launched the competition on February 19 against the European XI.

He earned his contract at New Road after some impressive performances with the ball in the One-Day Cup.

And he also showed his capabilities as a hard-hitting batter in the closing stages of the innings.
