WORCESTERSHIRE CCC claimed a comfortable 57-run victory against Middlesex as the Pears secured their first win of the County Championship season.

Alan Richardson’s side posted totals of 191 and 253 and bowled Middlesex out for 183 and 204 inside three days at Lord’s.

The result leaves the Pears third in Division Two of the County Championship table after two matches.

Pears head coach, Richardson said: “The guys worked incredibly hard to put ourselves in with a chance of winning the game, and then to finally get over the line was really good. So they thoroughly deserve the points that have come our way.

“Middlesex got some real momentum, but a really good partnership from Rodders [Gareth Roderick] and Matthew Waite in that 49-run partnership was really crucial.

“I think if we’d lost those three wickets quite early, momentum thoroughly would have gone against us. I think that just gave us a nice little platform to be able to set the fields for as long as we wanted, as much as we could, and give ourselves a chance of winning the game.

“That partnership was key, but there were some really good ones along the way. Dan and Jake and then Jake and Kash to make sure that we put ourselves in a really good position, they were also really important.”

Worcestershire captain Brett D’Oliveira (75) starred with the bat for the Pears in the first innings while opener Dan Lategan (31) chipped in with a useful knock.

The Pears responded well with the ball as Ollie Hannon-Dalby (4-45) and Adam Finch (3-61) restricted Middlesex to 183 all out.

And openers Jake Libby (79) and Lategan (65) produced a 112-run first-wicket partnership as the Pears passed the 250-mark in their second innings.

Middlesex needed 262 runs for victory but could only manage 204 all out as Tom Taylor (3-50) took the final wicket to clinch victory for the visitors.

Worcestershire are next in action against Kent on Friday, April 24 with play to begin at 11am at New Road.
