WORCESTERSHIRE Rapids suffered a five-wicket defeat against rivals Birmingham Bears in the T20 Blast.

The Rapids posted 155-7 from their 20 overs and had the Bears in trouble on 7-3 at the start of their reply only for big-hitters Sam Hain and Jacob Bethell to guide the visitors to victory at New Road.

And the result means Worcestershire sit bottom of the T20 Blast North Group standings in ninth place.

The returning Kashif Ali (8) struck Michael Booth (1-11) for six over deep mid-wicket only to lose his wicket attempting the same shot from the next delivery.

Fellow opener Ed Pollock (21) went on the offensive against George Garton (0-24) as he struck a huge six and two boundaries in a 14-run over.

However, the Rapids lost Josh Cobb (13) to a superb one-handed catch from Jake Lintott off the bowling of Craig Miles (1-24).

Pollock then lifted Dan Mousley (1-28) straight into the hands of mid-on in the final over of the powerplay with the Rapids on 51-3.

Bears bowler Danny Briggs (2-22) claimed the wicket of Gareth Roderick (20) with a full delivery.

And Briggs struck again as Adam Hose (17) departed to an excellent catch low down on the long on boundary before Ethan Brookes (13) fell in the same area off Bethell (1-19).

Lintott (1-27) accounted for Nathan Smith (8) as Rob Jones (26 not out) and Tom Taylor (21 not out) lifted the Rapids to 155-7.

The Rapids made a stunning start with the ball as Smith (2-24) struck twice in two balls in the first over to remove Ed Barnard (0) and Mousley (0) for ducks.

And Worcestershire struck again the following over when Hayden Walsh held on to a low catch as Taylor (3-36) claimed the wicket of Alex Davies (4).

However, Hain (76) and Bethell (71 not out) starred with the bat, putting on 148 runs for the Bears fourth-wicket.

Taylor eventually brought an end to Hain’s 53-ball innings before then bowling Chris Benjamin (0) the following ball only for Garton (4 not out) to seal the win for the Bears in the 18th over.
