WORCESTERSHIRE Rapids suffered their first defeat in the One-Day Cup after losing by six wickets against Gloucestershire.

The Rapids posted 237-8 from their 50 overs as Kashif Ali top scored with the bat for the home side at New Road.

However, Gloucestershire eased to the required total with six wickets and 43 balls to spare as three visiting batters scored half-centuries.

Gloucestershire won the toss and elected to bowl with the Rapids unable to score runs at a quick enough rate.

Openers Isaac Mohammed (15) and Brett D’Oliveira (26) both fell in quick succession before captain Jake Libby (3) also had his wicket taken.

With the Rapids on 59-3, Ali (36), Ethan Brookes (31) and Henry Cullen (35) looked to rebuild the innings but all three players fell with the home side still short of the 200-run mark.

Further runs from Matthew Waite (28) and Tom Taylor (25) took the Rapids beyond a score of 200 although the visitors restricted Worcestershire to 237-8 at the end of the innings.

And Gloucestershire impressed with the bat despite losing openers James Bracey (8) and Cameron Bancroft (29).

The visitors recovered from 54-2 as Ollie Price (66) and Ben Charlesworth (50) combined for a 104-run third-wicket stand.

And Gloucestershire skipper Jack Taylor (50) scored a 36-ball half-century to guide the visitors to victory.

That came after Worcestershire claimed a thrilling four-wicket win against Derbyshire at Repton School with 11 balls to spare.

Derbyshire reached 315 all out as Caleb Jewell (113) top scored while Matt Montgomery (92) fell just short of a century.

Rapids bowler Ben Allison (3-51) continued his hot streak with the ball while Fateh Singh (3-58) also claimed three scalps.

In reply, Worcestershire recovered from 9-2 as D’Oliveira (138) recorded an impressive century alongside Libby (69) in a 183-run third-wicket partnership.

And Daniel Lategan (42 not out) and Henry Cullen (26) blasted late runs to earn the Rapids another One-Day Cup victory with less than two overs to spare.

Worcestershire are next in action against Glamorgan on Friday, August 22 with play to start at 11am at New Road.
