WORCESTERSHIRE Rapids secured a home semi-final in the One-Day Cup with a comfortable six-wicket win against Surrey.

Half-centuries from Daniel Lategan and Jake Libby and also a stunning 80 from Kashif Ali sealed top spot in Group A for the Rapids at New Road.

Chasing 267 for victory, the Rapids reached 269-4 in the 40th over to seal a sixth group stage win from eight matches.

Worcestershire finished two points ahead of Hampshire and Gloucestershire to top the group.

The Rapids restricted Surrey to 266-6 from their 49 overs as England bowler Gus Atkinson (60) top scored for the visitors.

Opener Rory Burns (43) fell just shy of a half-century while Josh Blake departed on the same score later in the innings.

Useful knocks from Ollie Sykes (36) and Nikhil Gorantla (40 not out) helped Surrey recover from 70-3 to beyond the 250-run mark.

However, the Rapids took wickets at regular intervals as Khurram Shahzad (2-46) and Tom Taylor (2-59) took a couple of wickets apiece.

In reply, all of Worcestershire’s batters scored well as Lategan (54) registered his first List A half-century in an 83-run first-wicket stand with Brett D’Oliveira (45).

And Ali (80) and Libby (53 not out) then combined to seal victory for the home side after Rob Jones (25) fell in what proved the penultimate over of the match.

Worcestershire will host Somerset in the semi-finals on Sunday, August 31 with play to start at 11am at New Road.
