WORCESTERSHIRE Rapids recovered from 10-4 to claim a 12-run win against Derbyshire Falcons in the T20 Blast.

Gareth Roderick smashed 71 runs from just 57 balls to inspire the Rapids to victory after the visitors lost four early wickets at the County Ground.

And fine knocks from Ethan Brookes and Ben Dwarshuis helped the Rapids recover to 174-6 at the end of their 20 overs.

Basement club Derbyshire could only manage 162-6 in reply despite the best efforts of Wayne Madsen.

The result means Worcestershire sit sixth in the T20 Blast North Group standings.

Worcestershire won the toss and elected to bat only to slip to 10-4 in the third over.

Opener Isaac Mohammed (4) fell at the end of the first over with fellow opener as captain Brett D’Oliveira (5) dismissed in the following over.

And Zak Chappell (3-26) then removed Kashif Ali (1) and Adam Hose (0) in consecutive balls to leave the Rapids in trouble on 10-4.

However, Roderick (71) and Brookes (43) led the Worcestershire recovery with an 85-run fifth-wicket stand.

Further runs from Dwarshuis (33 not out) and Tom Taylor (14 not out) propelled the Rapids to 174 at the end of the innings.

And Taylor (2-33) then made the perfect start with the ball as he claimed the wicket of Aneurin Donald (0) with the first legal delivery of Derbyshire’s reply.

Taylor struck again to remove Harry Came (8) before Dwarshuis (1-29) bowled Caleb Jewell (16) to leave Derbyshire on 29-3.

Only Madsen (77 not out) managed more than 20 runs for the Falcons as he hit 12 boundaries in a 53-ball innings.

However, he had little support at the crease as captain Samit Patel (15), Ross Whiteley (12) and Martin Andersson (16) all came and went.

The Rapids conceded just one boundary in the final two overs to secure a 12-run victory and remain in the hunt for a place in the quarter-finals.

Worcestershire are next in action against rivals Birmingham Bears on Friday, July 11 with the game to start at 5.30pm at New Road.
