WORCESTERSHIRE Rapids bounced back from a derby defeat against Birmingham Bears with victory against Leicestershire Foxes in the T20 Blast.

The Rapids suffered a 23-run defeat against local rivals Birmingham at New Road.

However, Worcestershire responded with a six-wicket win against the Foxes at New Road as Ethan Brookes scored a half-century.

The results mean the Rapids sit fifth in the T20 Blast North Group standings.

Worcestershire won the toss and elected to bowl as the Rapids claimed the wickets of Bears openers Tom Latham (1) and Alex Davies (19) inside four overs.

However, the Bears recovered from 24-2 to reach 87-3 as Dan Mousley (31) and Sam Hain (44) combined for a 63-run third-wicket stand.

The returning Jacob Bethell (6) lasted just four balls before Ed Barnard (23) and George Garton (36 not out) helped Birmingham reach 176 all out.

In reply, the Rapids lost captain Brett D’Oliveira (1) in the fourth over as Hasan Ali (3-32) claimed his first scalp of the match.

And Ali also accounted for Isaac Mohammed (25) before Gareth Roderick (30) and Adam Hose (51) lifted the Rapids from 29-2 to 78-3.

However, Ali caught Roderick off the bowling of Danny Briggs (3-37) as the wickets began to tumble.

The Rapids slumped from 78-3 to 109-6 as Briggs claimed the crucial scalp of Ben Dwarshuis (13).

Craig Miles (2-22) chipped in with two wickets while Ali trapped Hose LBW as the Bears bowled out the Rapids for 153 in the final over.

However, the Rapids claimed victory against Leicestershire to keep their quarter-final hopes alive.

Leicestershire won the toss and elected to bat only for Tom Taylor (3-25) to bowl Rishi Patel (0) with the third ball of the match,

And Khurram Shahzad (1-34) then bowled Shan Masood (5) to leave the visitors on 5-2 in the second over.

Taylor returned to remove Sol Budinger (15) and Rehan Ahmed (32) in the eighth over with the Foxes on 59-4.

However, Ben Cox (70 not out) and Louis Kimber (32) propelled Leicestershire to 173-6 at the end of their 20 overs.

In reply, Rapids openers Mohammed (29) and D’Oliveira (23) put on 50 runs for the first wicket.

Roderick (26) and Kashif Ali (16) added some useful runs as Brookes (56 not out) inspired the Rapids to victory in a 28-ball innings supported by Henry Cullen (18 not out).

Brookes hit four fours and five sixes as the home side reached the required total with six wickets in-hand and 13 balls to spare.

Worcestershire are next in action against Nottinghamshire on Thursday, July 17 with the game to start at 5.30pm at New Road.
