WORCESTERSHIRE CCC have confirmed the club is ‘in contact with the relevant parties’ regarding the status of impending arrival Beyers Swanepoel.
The South African all-rounder agreed to join the Pears last December on a one-year red-ball contract.
However, Swanepoel’s future has become uncertain after his contract at domestic club South Africa Lions was terminated.
The Lions said the club had reached a ‘mutual agreement’ to part ways with Swanepoel with immediate effect.
Swanepoel left the pitch seven overs early in the club’s 50-over cup final against Titans at the end of last month.
The Lions said Swanepoel left the field ‘without securing the required approval from Lions Cricket.
The club also say Swanepoel has not secured the No Objection Certificate (NOC) to travel to the United Kingdom.
Overseas players require a No Objection Certificate from their national body before they can play abroad.
Swanepoel has since apologised for the incident with his future up in the air for now.
Swanepoel said: “I sincerely apologise to the entire Lions family for what transpired in the final.
“I can assure everyone that lessons have been learnt.”
Worcestershire signed Warwickshire bowler Olly Hannon-Dalby for the first two games of the County Championship season as cover for Swanepoel.
A Pears club statement reads: “The club remains in contact with the relevant parties regarding Beyers’ current status and any further regulatory requirements, including the No Objection Certificate (NOC) process with Cricket South Africa.
“At this stage, it would be premature to provide a definitive timeframe for Beyers joining the squad, and the club will issue a further update in due course.”
