CRICKET - Libby insists New Road return will be 'special' for Worcestershire

JAKE Libby is looking forward to a ‘special’ return to New Road as Worcestershire prepare to play Nottinghamshire in the County Championship.

After a series of floods during the off season, the Pears moved their opening two home matches of the new County Championship season to Kidderminster.

And red ball vice-captain Libby cannot wait to play at New Road again as Worcestershire go in search of their first win of the season.

Libby said: “It’s fantastic for the boys to be back playing at New Road and I’m sure Friday morning will be so special.

“Obviously you can’t do anything about the elements and this winter across the country, not just in this area, has had constant downpours.

“It was disappointing for everyone not to start life back in Division One of the County Championship at our home.

“Make no mistake all credit to everyone at Kidderminster for putting on the first two home games and there was a tremendous effort by all the staff at Worcestershire.

“But now we are back at New Road and will be aiming to put on a show for our supporters before we turn our attention to the Blast.

“It will be a special feeling for each and everyone of us when we walk down the pavilion steps onto the outfield.

“We also look forward to seeing and speaking with our members and there is a special bond.

“We came up a top class side in Surrey in our last game even though there were moments in the game where we had opportunities.

“But overall we’ve been very competitive in the matches to date.”

The Pears host Nottinghamshire at New Road this weekend from Friday, May 24 to Monday, May 27.
