Colwyn Bay 0-2 Worcester City

Vanarama Conference North

HAVING not tasted away day success for almost two months, Worcester City were determined to make the most of their trip to an out-of-form Colwyn Bay on Saturday.

And they did just that as Tristan Dunkley and a late Sean Geddes penalty ensured City showed their hosts no love in the Valentines Day clash and left North Wales with a much-needed 2-0 victory.

The three points didn’t come without its moments, however, as returning loan goalkeeper Ryan Boot performed wonders in the Worcester goal and denied Jamie Ellison’s penalty with just five minutes remaining and the score at 1-0.

Boot wasn’t the only new addition to make his debut as Southport loanees Micah Evans and Jonathan Lynch both slotted into the starting XI and Lynch was straight into the thick of the action when he found Mike Symons but the strikers effort failed to trouble Chris Sanna.

There was also a return for Tristan Dunkley, the pacey winger looking to stake his claim for a regular starting berth as his dangerous cross was only lacking the finishing touch before Sean Geddes’ strike was comfortably held by Sanna.

The Blue and Whites were well on top and finally did break the deadlock after 15 minutes.

Kyle Haynes played a long ball to Symons who expertly brought it down and fed Evans.

The on-loan winger showed why Carl Heeley had brought him into the Worcester fold as he skipped past his man and set up Dunkley who made no mistake from six yards out.

Geddes, Ellis Deeney and Symons all had further chances to extend the lead as the visitors controlled proceedings. Mike Wilson then had Bays first chance of the encounter but headed wide from a corner.

On the stroke of half time Evans was inches away from adding a second as his strike rippled the wrong side of the net.

Whatever Gus Williams said to his men at the break clearly had the desired effect.

Determined not to extend their barren 12-game run without a win, Jonathan Royle headed marginally over while Mike Lea’s effort was somehow kept out by Boot.

And just as time looked to be ticking away from the relegation-threatened hosts they were handed a dramatic lifeline with five minutes remaining when Aaron Brown was adjudged to have brought down Ellison in the box.

The striker picked himself up but his firm spot-kick was kept out by Boot.

And then to add insult to injury, Worcester broke with pace and when Geddes was tripped by Danny Taylor in the area a second penalty was awarded. This time no mistake was made as the midfielder dispatched his kick with ease to secure all three points.
