City hoping for more cup success with visit of Halifax

Worcester Editorial 23rd Dec, 2014 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

WORCESTER City will look to get their cup exploits back on track tonight (Tuesday) when they welcome Conference Premier side FC Halifax Town to Aggborough in the FA Trophy.

The Blue and Whites were scheduled to face Town on Saturday, December 13, but the referee postponed the tie due to a frozen goal-mouth at the south end of the ground.

Since that date both sides have moved up their respective league, The Shaymen secured a 2-0 win over Nuneaton and City beat Stalybridge 1-0 to jump to 6th and 7th respectively.

Carl Heeley rested a number of key players for the victory at the weekend, with most likely to return for the first round tie.

Worcester made it to this stage with an impressive 3-0 victory over Barrow, in which Sean Geddes’ “rabona” grabbed headlines all over the world.

Halifax, who last reached the quarter finals of the competition during the 2012/13 season, have won three of their last four outings.

However Neil Aspin’s men haven’t tasted success on the road since a 2-0 win at Alfreton Town on September 30.

The two sides last met in March last year with Town coming out resounding 5-0 winners. They had previously won 1-0 at St George’s Lane.

Having secured £4,000 for the third round qualifying success, £5,000 is up for grabs for tonight’s winner.

There will be a live blog for the game on www.worcesterobserver.co.uk online.
