Another key game in race for the title

WORCESTER City face another top-of-the-table clash this weekend when they host Sporting Khalsa.

Fourth-placed Khalsa come to the Victoria Ground on Saturday looking to bounce back from a crushing 4-0 home defeat to leaders Westfields, who claimed first place in the standings.

Meanwhile, City eased to a 3-0 victory over previous table-toppers Ilkeston Town to move up to second.

John Snape’s men are now 14 games unbeaten in all competitions following Saturday’s success over Ilkeston and would have hoped to extend that to 15 in last night’s (Tuesday) Worcestershire Senior Urn clash at Pershore Town.

It took just nine minutes for City to take the lead against title rivals Ilkeston, with James Baldwin on hand to tap home from close range after latching on to Luke English’s long throw.

Eight minutes into the second half the Derbyshire visitors were reduced to ten men when Matt Baker was sent off for a challenge on goalscorer Baldwin.

City made the most of the man advantage by notching their second goal of the afternoon with 20 minutes remaining.

Baldwin did well down the left to create the chance, with Jordan Harrison’s shot charged down but Matt Birley was on hand to slam home the rebound.

Ten minutes later City wrapped up the three points when Harrison’s cross-shot found its way into the top corner.
