Police chief wants you to tell him his priorities

Worcester Editorial 5th Oct, 2020   0

AHEAD of setting next year’s policing budget, the Police and Crime Commissioner for West Mercia Police wants to hear from communities across the three counties the force serves.

Over the next four weeks, Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion is seeking the views of Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Worcestershire residents via a public survey.

He says that with Covid-19 placing an impact on the economy and wider public finances, there are greater uncertainties than usual as the region heads towards next year’s policing budget.

Therefore, Mr Campion says he is keen to ensure that, when it comes to it, the public’s views are at the heart of his decision making.

The coronavirus pandemic has left local authorities reliant on financial help from the government.

The survey will ask people about their priorities, what policing is like in their community, and in which areas of policing would they choose to spend more or less money.

PCC Campion said: “This is another chance for me to hear the views of the public. I want to continue to understand priorities people have and ensure they are at the heart of decisions I make.”
