WORCESTER City Women lifted the Worcestershire County Cup trophy following a 3-1 victory against Redditch Borough Women in the final.

Goals from Jess Fassnidge, Nyah Edwards and Kaye Haggett sealed the trophy for Worcester at the Diary of a Debt Collector Stadium.

A goal from Daisy-Mai Clements kept Borough in the contest only for Worcester to score a late third goal to seal victory against their lower-division opponents.

A midfield battle dominated the opening quarter-hour as both teams wrestled for control in a tight contest.

Worcester almost broke the deadlock when Evie Billingsley fired a powerful effort towards goal which Borough goalkeeper Abby Dadson tipped onto the underside of the crossbar.

Borough responded with a chance of their own as Clements’ free-kick travelled wide of Jodie Whiteman’s goal.

However, City took the lead on 36 minutes when Fassnidge scored from the penalty spot after Katie Jamieson brought down Billingsley in the box.

And Worcester doubled their lead virtually straight from the restart with Edwards on target from 12-yards after Samantha Baker committed a foul in the penalty area.

Redditch made a bright start to the second period but struggled to seriously trouble Whiteman in the Worcester net.

Borough’s pressure eventually paid off with three minutes left to play as Clements fired a shot into the top-right corner from just inside the penalty area.

Redditch pushed for an equaliser in injury time only for Haggett to drive a low shot past Dadson at the back post following a counter attack to seal the trophy for Worcester.
